Google is taking search to a new level, moving from simply providing information towards an intelligent conversation.
New features based on artificial intelligence are significantly changing the way people work with search. Users are beginning to ask more complex questions and expect not only quick answers but also deeper understanding. This major shift is also Google's strategic response to growing competition from AI assistants and an effort to maintain its dominance in the world of online information.
Watch the videoAI Overviews
The "AI Overviews" feature, which Google had been testing since last year, quickly gained popularity. It offers summarised answers to complex questions, supplemented with links to trustworthy sources. This approach makes searching more efficient.
The technology also faces challenges, however. Shortly after its wider launch in the USA, there were cases where the AI generated factually incorrect or absurd answers, which sparked a debate about reliability. Google is actively working on eliminating these errors. At the same time, the feature raises the question of its impact on content creators.
The new AI Mode: natural conversations and deeper understanding
The new AI Mode is a fully conversational search environment that is available without the need to register. It lets you hold a natural dialogue and ask follow-up questions, including in multimodal form. Queries are broken down and analysed in parallel, which increases the relevance of the answers.
Deep Search is meant to be research that saves time
The Deep Search feature extends an ordinary search with hundreds of sub-queries, connects different sources and generates a comprehensive overview with citations within a few minutes. Ideal for complex topics and research.
Search Live as interaction through the camera
Multimodal features also let you search using the camera. Just point the lens and ask a question. Google responds to what you are looking at right now and helps with recognition, instructions and troubleshooting.
Agentic AI as Search that acts on your behalf
The new features can act for the user. For example, when buying tickets, the AI compares prices, picks the best option and fills in the form. For now the feature focuses on events and local services.
Smart shopping from inspiration to payment
Google is connecting Gemini with its Shopping Graph and hundreds of millions of products. Users can then try on clothes using an uploaded photo, track a price and be notified of a discount.
Personalised shopping in AI Mode
In AI Mode you can search visually, for example by entering "practical travel bag". The results are tailored to the travel destination, the weather and so on, including current offers and online shops.
The future of search and new challenges
Google is heading towards an intelligent partner that not only searches but understands, plans and acts. The main challenge remains ensuring accuracy and fairness towards the content authors on whose work the AI is built. The way we find information is fundamentally changing right now.
